Nayan Shankaran ‘24 College admissions is always a stressful process, but this year’s seniors are even more anxious due to a variety of COVID-19 pandemic related uncertainties. Students across the country are struggling to learn about colleges without campus visits, deciding whether to take standardized tests in light of new test-optional policies, and worrying if deferrals by the Class of 2020 will mean fewer spots for the Class of 2021. Despite these concerns, the EA College Counseling Office believes that this year’s application cycle will be largely the same as in previous years — deadlines and application materials are unchanged,…

Outward Bound and pre-season were both canceled this year due to the pandemic leaving freshmen with far fewer options for getting to know each other and acclimate to the Upper School. One of the few activities that was able to continue was the freshmen orientation before the start of the school year. Rather than have Outward Bound this year, one day over the summer, both new and returning students signed up for a two and a half hour block of time with their advisory. Jack Riley ‘24 comments that “[he] is disappointed that Outward Bound was cancelled but felt that…
Apart from online lab simulations, the Science Department is also looking into the possibility of executing individual labs in-person. Limaye explains a possible scenario: “Each class would be split in half. One half would work on the lab with separation through plexiglass while the other half would do separate activities.” To accommodate both sections of the class, this scenario would make labs a two-day project and therefore would cut into the breadth of topic coverage. Limaye says, “We would just have to be efficient as possible.” The primary struggle for teachers, however, lies in accommodating those who have chosen to…

Bram Schork ‘22, a student at the Haverford School, explains his thoughts on Haverford’s reopening, “Haverford did a fantastic job reopening, but, at first,…
This fall, the Inter-Ac League’s heads of schools have been meeting on a regular basis to continually assess the changing landscape as it relates to interscholastic athletics, and have been in constant contact with health and medical professionals regarding the possibility of moving forward with a competitive fall sports season. After thorough discussion and monitoring the trends, the shared belief is that the best time for fall sports is right now. EA has enacted the following plans for athletics: EA will continue Fall Sports training until the start of Winter Sports on December 7, 2020. In League competitions will begin October…

“When I [Tomaino] think of Madison and her play, I think about her coachability and aggressiveness.” This assertiveness can be seen not only on the field during a game, but also in practice. Tomaino continues, “Madison does a great job playing aggressive and hustling 150% in every drill. Her positive energy and intensity is definitely contagious.” Another key to Vetterlein’s success is that she is constantly looking to improve her game. Tomaino describes her as “very quick to make adjustments and listen to a coach’s feedback.” Her desire to improve and her confidence on the field make Vetterlein a strong…
Sigel agrees with this logic, adding that he hopes Cannon will be welcomed by the community, saying, “My hope is that he feels welcomed and a part of this community…” Cannon is inspired by modern concepts and ideas of art, and hopes to bring this new set of eyes to all of his students.
