John Flynn ’14: There are special bonds made when you are teammates with someone. They become part of your family; you have your brother’s or sister’s back and they have yours. But what if your brother or sister becomes your teammate? You no longer view each other as the older or the younger sibling. They become equals, mutual respect. This is a rare opportunity that not many can experience. The Felizianis, Manleys and Quinlans shed some light of life with their sibling as teammates. Anthony Feliziani ’14 and Christian Feliziani ’16 have been key contributors to the successful churchman football campaign…

We don’t have too many kids on the team but that actually brings us closer together. Long bus rides to tournaments give us a lot of time to bond as a team and I want the underclassmen to care as much about the team as I do. Everyone is an essential part of the team. Connor Martin ’14: Injuries are without a doubt the most unfortunate aspect of athletics. In any sport on any level, they occur constantly, something that is in reality inevitable. They aren’t necessarily related to the level of aggressiveness of a player, as anybody on the field, court, or pool is susceptible to any wide range of injuries at any given moment. The majority of these occurrences are freak injuries, instances where typical athletic movements prove to be detrimental. For example, a wide receiver making a cut on his route and tearing his knee or a basketball player jumping and landing on…

Reilly Dugery ’15: As Episcopal students begin one of the most anticipated weeks of the school year, they will notice a few changes throughout Spirit Week. In anticipation of Spirit Week, Student Council has spent a great deal of time organizing the competitions, listening to student feedback, and striving to improve the overall enjoyment of the events. While this Spirit Week holds a number of similarities to last year’s, some aspects have been altered. One of the most exciting changes this year is the addition of two new dress down days. Traditionally, there have been three themed days, with normal dress…

Roshan Ravishankar ’14: Hundreds of thousands of Americans logged onto healthcare.gov on October 1st in order to manage their health insurance. The day should have been a rousing success for President Obama’s new healthcare plan, but prospects turned sour when the website faltered. Only about 1% of users were able to purchase health insurance through the site. To make matters worse, the incident occurred on the same day as the government shut down, putting Obama’s policy under considerable scrutiny. And now, weeks later, even with the government’s open, the problem has not been fully resolved. Thus, it is imperative that the…
Dear Editor, The article in the October 2013 Scholium, “Accelerated math extends learning limits,” highlighted one of the strengths of an Episcopal Academy education: the flexibility to challenge and meet the needs of our students. There is a decided swelling of enthusiasm for the mathematical sciences in recent years at EA, and thanks to the unwavering support of the administration, we have been able to respond to it. It is an exciting time in mathematics at the Academy, and it is true that I hope that we become known as the best math program in the region. I write to…

Amanda Paolino ’15: Froyo seems all the craze these days as the seemingly simple frozen treat has begun to take over the Main Line. Everywhere you turn there is a new frozen yogurt place announcing its opening, with enticing names such as So Fun!, Kiwi, Red Mango and Whirled Peace. It was only a matter of time before EA’s own campus fell into the inevitable fate of the froyo frenzy. Episcopal is now serving an array of flavors of frozen yogurt each day in a small freezer located near the entrance of the cafeteria. John Familetti, Director of Food Services at…
