When a person walks into the Episcopal Academy competition gym they are first met with the coveted 1000 point plaque. This plaque contains all the basketball players in Episcopal history that have achieved this distinguished accomplishment during their high school career. This plaque consists of players such as Gerald Henderson and Wayne Ellington, both of which are in the NBA at this moment. However, it is an honor to be in the midst of some of our very own, to join the 1000 point club. Two Episcopal Academy basketball players have recently broken into the 1000 point club in the most honorable fashion. Of the two, is Matthew Dade, an Episcopal Academy senior who’s talents have brought him this honorable achievement. “It feels good to be apart of the 1000 point club because this school has been around for so long and to be 1 of the 11 means a lot to me,” Dade says. Head Coach of the varsity team, Craig Conlin, says “It is not only an incredible individual accomplishment for the players, but also a great honor for our team and program.” One of the things that makes Episcopal special is the community and the fanbase that our athletic teams posses. “My teammates were very happy for me they’ve been very supportive to me throughout high school,” Dade says. Our whole school was their to witness him achieve this great feat. Among Dades teammates, is Alex Capitano, a junior, who recently broke the 1000 point mark as well. Capitano reminisces on achieving it saying “It felt amazing. It was something as a kid I saw some of my favorite players do and I always told myself I’d be doing the same thing when I got to High school and it was a huge goal of mine because of how rare it is.” These two players are apart of a group of EA legends such as Wayne Ellington and Gerald Henderson. “To be in the same group as those names is just amazing because knowing how much of a mark they left on the community is something I strive for. To see my name up there with some great players is just a dream come true,” Capitano says. The Episcopal Academy has been celebrating the 1000th basket for these players for years. “We do alert the other team of the possibility of the upcoming honor and we ask to stop the game to award the game ball to the player who usually runs it into the stands to his parents” Coach Conlin says. Right when one achieves the feat of 1000 points, they are acknowledged for becoming a part of a group of legendary EA basketball players.
