Importance of taking action towards gun safety at EA

No matter your political opinion on gun control or gun rights, it is pertinent to understand that gun violence is plaguing all aspects of American society. According to CNN, there have been eight school shootings in America since the start of 2018. The recent rise in school shootings should be an indicator that we as students need to take a more active role in understanding gun policy as well as EA’s safety policies. With this, we urge students and teachers to take lock down drills seriously, stopping class and reflecting. Teachers should not continue to teach through lock down drills, just as students should be preparing for the possibility of gun violence in school.

The Young Politician’s Club organized a town hall with Joe Shanahan during domino the week of February 26th to discuss EA’s gun safety strategy, followed by a political conversation on policy. We hope students attend this town hall, respectfully edvoicing their concerns and listening to differing opinions. Politics aside, the safety of our students and students across america are the most important. In light of recent events, we urge students to take an active role in understanding gun safety and encourage dialogue on the topic.
