Connor Martin ’14:

Cross-country
This year’s memorable EA/Haverford/AIS weekend was kicked off with a victory by our girl’s cross-country team. With great support from their always-enthusiastic coach, Timothy Gavin, the Churchwomen defeated the Owls 25-35 to finish off a fantastic season. Standouts included 1st place finisher Katherine Hong ’15, 5th place Elizabeth Stone ’16, 6th place Leigh Adelizzi, ’15 and 7th place finisher captain Mimi McCann ’13. This team worked hard all year long, and it definitely showed in their impressive defeat of the Owls.

Tennis
Fans that made it out to the tennis courts at Bryn Mawr College saw a great head-to-head match between the Churchwomen and the Owls. Although the Owls were favored after beating the Churchwomen 4-3 earlier this season, our girls were able to pull out an exciting 4-3 victory and get some revenge on their rivals. The team saw victories from 3rd singles, 1st doubles, 3rd doubles, and 4th doubles. Eliza Dordelman ’14 stood out, winning a hard-fought match in the 3rd singles showdown. Captains Audrey Regillo ’13 and Grace Van Arkel ’13 were instrumental to the overall team success this year. This victory earned the Churchwomen a three-way share of the Inter-Ac title.

Field Hockey
Out on the turf at Bryn Mawr College, the Episcopal field hockey team pulled off an impressive 3-0 win over the Owls, earning them a share of the Inter-Ac title with Notre Dame. Margaux Paolino ’16 tallied two goals, while Maddie Bacskai ’15 finished the Owls off with the 3rd and final goal of the game. Alanna Dumas ’13 continued her fine season with a couple of nice assists in the victory. The team went on to beat Notre Dame to win the PAISAA Tournament.

Soccer
In the fourth and final event of the afternoon, the girls’ soccer team won a 2-1 nail biter in double overtime. The game was played very evenly throughout with neither team really dominating. The Owls’ Kristin Burnetta ’13 struck early and they maintained that 1-0 lead into the early minutes of the 2nd half. Casey Smyth ’13 tied it up off a deflection in the 2nd half, effectively and suddenly shifting the momentum to the Churchwomen. Until the waning moments of the 2nd overtime period, neither team could capitalize on their goal opportunities. Finally, Captain Kristen Hinckley ’13 buried a goal off of an assist from Lauren Repke ’15 to put Episcopal in the lead. As the final buzzer rang, the student body stormed the field. This memorable moment capped off the sweep of AIS and earned the Churchwomen soccer team an outright Inter-Ac championship. They were able to put aside a 2-1 loss to the Owls (in the PAISAA tournament which does not count on their record) earlier in the week and fight through adversity to win this thriller.
