Sage Dining Services has begun to incorporate meals that celebrate global holidays and big community events into EA’s meal plan. Katie Vigna, the Head of Sage Dining at EA, commented on the process behind these special meals, saying,“There’s food holiday calendars and we kind of follow that, or if we hear anyone at the school talking about something then we kind of listen to them as well, so it is a combination of our ideas and the EA community.”

Sage uses the National Food Calendar, which celebrates a variety of meals and beverages, to coordinate these events. The dining service also arranges these special meals based on standard holidays, such as the dumpling meal for Lunar New Year. “To obtain special ingredients for these events, we communicate with the Sage Marketing Department in Berwyn”, explains Vigna.

EA students enjoy these special events because Sage celebrates cultures from around the world and teaches students about these foreign cultures through food. Miles Davis ‘22 states “I’ve personally been fond on the special events Sage does. I like how they recognize a special event that is going on somewhere in the world and establish more of a variety of world foods and cultures in the process.”  Daniel Demessie ‘24 agrees with Davis, explaining,”I think that it’s great that Sage makes different kinds of food for special events. Even if I don’t always enjoy it, it’s great to have more variety during lunch and learn about the food associated with a holiday or event.”

The pie charts below represent the EA community’s different opinions on meals provided by Sage Dining Services. It also calls on the community to provide input on which meals should be added to the regular menu.
