Service trip in India

Some may say that walking through the polluted streets of an overpopulated city like Mumbai is not anything amazing, but somehow I still found it beautiful. We watched children with nothing find entertainment in the simplest objects. Seeing how hard people worked in the Dharavi slums took my breath away because they were risking their health to feed their families. I learned to appreciate all of the little things I have at home like Western style toilets and toilet paper. Working with the children at the Ashraya Institute helped me discover how intelligent these underprivileged kids were and it delighted me to brighten their day when we did activities such as making masks and goo, and writing letters to EA lower schoolers. – Lolo Lomax ’14
