The Disciplinary Committee at Episcopal Academy recently experienced a change in leadership. Due to other time-consuming commitments, Leslie Trimble, upper school science teacher, made the decision to step down as the head of the Disciplinary Committee after the 2017-2018 school year. When asked about her resignation, Trimble said “It was a very tough decision. I enjoyed working with the students and the faculty on the committee very much, but I just could not do all those activities at once.” Trimble has been replaced by Jennifer Maier, upper school English teacher, who will be a passionate and impactful addition to the committee. When talking about what interested her most about joining the committee, Maier said, “I always thought having a code of honor by which we live is important, so it was natural that I would be interested in the Disciplinary Committee here at Episcopal.” Maier continued, “It is important that we have rules, and when the rules are broken, that we have a committee that includes both students and teachers to reflect on what has happened and think about the proper thing to do moving forward.” The pressure of always making the fairest decision looms over the student and faculty members of the Disciplinary Committee; however, Maier is working to create an environment in which everyone feels heard and the standards of the committee are maintained, emphasising thoughtfulness and confidentiality.
