Sage Dining is an incredible service at the Academy. Every student knows the joy of discovering that it’s Bang Bang Chicken day, or that the Oreo cheesecake has returned. As of late, however, I have noticed what I believe to be a deliberate disruption of cuisine choices. Why, I ask, WHY, does Sage dining serve all of their exceptionally good options on the same day? I often walk into the Tierney Dining Hall at 10:50 AM to find my heart torn between indulging in a decadent build-your-own Mediterranean bowl or relishing in a delectable plate of grilled chicken and pasta primavera, and deciding between mac and cheese from the Main Ingredient line or pesto pasta from Trattoria is harder than deciding where to go to college. As I agonize over which meal to choose, Sage decides to also provide fresh-cut oranges, perfectly crunchy grapes, fresh pita and hummus from the sandwich bar, and Rice Krispies… seriously, they’re BEGGING me to come back for second lunch at 12:26 sharp. With my hopes high and my stomach full, I leave the dining hall a better woman on those spectacular days, only to have my hopes dashed the next day by a mushroom and mystery meat main course. While these options are good, compared to the Michelin star quality of the previous day, I can’t help but feel slightly disappointed. No matter your opinions are on the best lunch options at the Episcopal Academy, Sage forces students to make agonizing decisions every other day. It’s like asking a parent to choose their favorite child. Take this message as an SOS (Spread out Options, Sage!)
