Field Hockey: Richie Palazzese ’14
Led by co-captains Weezie Chakejian ‘12 and Leslie MacManus ‘12, the field hockey team has had an unbelievable season thus far. Their most thrilling win came in overtime against their arch-rival, Notre Dame. This epic win has been retold everywhere, including in The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Delco Times. Forward Carly Ciccotti ’12 has been a key component to the team’s success, generating offense in the circle. Ciccotti said that her game-winning goal against Notre Dame was “a good way to end my high school career, I scored off of a corner. Leslie hit a good pass to Alana who had a good cross and I got my stick on the post. It was exciting to beat Notre Dame because of the longstanding rivalry.” When Episcopal played Agnes Irwin on their field earlier in the season, they came away with a win. Though the team has already clinched at least a share of the league title with Notre Dame, if Episcopal beats Agnes Irwin in Friday’s game, they will win the Inter-Ac over Notre Dame.
Girls Soccer:
This year’s girls’ soccer team features a number of returning sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The team, led by co-captains Maria DiMedio ’12 and Ali Singley ’12, has had a successful season, boasting a 13-6-3 record, with a record of 5-1-1 in the league. The team was successful in beating the Owls last EA/AIS day, and is in a good position to bring home another win this year. Alex Archambult ’14 described the team’s captains as “competitive, supportive, and great leaders for our team. They are always there to keep our team morale up and keep pushing us to reach our maximum potential.”
Girls’ Cross Country: Timmy Freese ’14
The girls’ cross country team has had a successful record this year that included a third place finish in both States and the InterAc, fifth place finish at Delcos and a successful season in dual meets. The girls are led by captain Kristin Greenwood ’12. The girls have been building off of past successes, as last year they only lost to Agnes Irwin by two points. This year, they beat Agnes Irwin in both States and Delcos, and only lost to the Owls by one point at InterAcs. Greenwood said that “we’ve never been so close, last year we only lost by two, and we beat them at Delcos. We’ve been getting stronger all season, and the freshmen are coming into their own. This year we’re determined to win.”
Tennis: Pat Espe and Raphael Furey ’14
The girls’ tennis team, led by co-captains Marian Prim ’12 and Stephanie Pino ’12 boast a record of 12-2 and an undefeated record of 6-0 in the league. The girls have also won the Inter-Ac for the ninth time in eleven years. Eliza Dordleman ’14 a number one doubles player, displayed her confidence with the team as well. “I’m confident in their strong doubles team and I’m confident going into the match.” Coach Whitaker Powell said, “I like my team and we had a great season so there is an element of confidence going into the match. However, AIS is a strong team who battled us close when we played in the regular season and we always respect our opponent and prepare for everyone’s best effort.”
