Abhay Malik ’17:

This past December, Episcopal students participated in the regional level of the Future Business Leaders of America Competition, “a program that recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. Through this competition, members compete in events that test their business knowledge and skills.”

Although this is Episcopal’s first year competing, 8 students have been invited to the Pennsylvania Future Business Leaders of America State Conference. In the individual event of Business Calculations, Edward Zhao ‘17 placed third and Abhay Malik ‘17 placed first. Continuing the success in the individual events, Timothy Baker ‘17 placed first in the relatively new event of Insurance and Risk Management. Praneeth Alla ‘19 was the second-place winner for the Introduction to Information Technology, one of several events that are reserved for 10th graders and below. In addition, Nishant Thangada ‘19 placed first in the event of Introduction to Financial Math. For the topic of Business Communication, Ryan Schiller ‘17 finished in fourth. The team of Felicia Zhu ‘17 and Stephana Lim ‘17 placed first for Global Business.

The State qualifiers were not the only ones to do well at the regional level. Maxwell Guo ‘17 was the fifth-place finisher in the very competitive event of Economics. The group of Thomas Woodville ‘17, Alex Eringis ‘17, and Michael Wilkinson ‘17 placed second in the event of Entrepreneurship. Finally, Greg Smith ‘17 finished in second place in Public Speaking II.

Generally, the regional level was a huge success for EA students. As Smith put it, “In practicing for the FBLA competition, I developed both my knowledge in the field of business and my work ethic, both of which are needed for any aspiring business leader. I am fortunate to have participated in Episcopal’s first year of FBLA, and I look forward to further taking advantage of this opportunity my senior year.”  Congratulations to all the winners, and good luck to those moving on to the state level in April!
