Connor Delaney ’17, Avi Shah ’17: The Episcopal Academy Boys’ Soccer team has had an impressive season thus far. The team carries a 7-6-3 record, 0-2-2 in the Inter-Ac. The team began their season with a trip. While in North Carolina they showed their competitiveness and capability. Head Coach David Knox reflected on their pre-season saying, “After a terrific pre-season [in North Carolina] we entered Inter-Ac play with high hopes.” He also commented that, “After a tie with Malvern we lost games against Penn Charter and SCHA by one goal, both in the last few minutes of the game.” Although unfortunate losses, the team was able to build their skills, bouncing back with a win against Malvern. Despite the tough losses, Co-captain Mike Hinkley ’15 is confident that “the team is defintely moving in a positive direction.”

Coach Knox also mentioned that he isn’t taking care of his team alone, “My captains Aaron Bogle and Michael Hinckley have been rock solid this year. They are role models on and off the field and with such a young squad (12 freshman and sophomores), they have a lot of responsibility.” Thankfully, those freshman and sophomores, although young, are large contributors to the overall success of the team. Sophomore goalie Matt Freese ’17 lined up an impressive 16 saves in the win against Malvern.

However, the question on many students minds is whether or not our team will be able to compete with Haverford? “In order to win the game this year we need to really control the midfield and take our chances going forward”, said Hinckley. “Our back line needs to be solid and limit the goal scoring opportunities.” Knox responded with confidence, saying, “By looking at their numbers within the league there is no doubt that we can compete with them.”
