Zachary Richards has been an integral part of the EA community for years. He has served as an ethics teacher, the head track coach, and an Upper School form dean, substantially contributing to the lives of his students and athletes alike.
As a teacher, his passionate teaching style makes learning everything from deontology to utilitarianism fun and engaging. His classes leave every student feeling like they have gained a new perspective on the world around them. Outside of the classroom, he fosters students’ interest in ethics through the Ethics Bowl club, where students participate in ethical debate competitions under his tutelage.
As a coach, Richards is extremely knowledgeable and supportive. He has forged a close bond with many of the athletes, and is an integral part of the track community. After races, he is always extremely excited to recognize and celebrate athletes for their performances, and always praises their hard work and dedication. His daily presence and consistent support make him an extremely reliable figure, and he balances his light-hearted nature with his desire for the team’s success, remaining focused on the goals of the athletes. Under his tenure, the Episcopal Academy track program has become one of the most successful high school programs in the state, with multiple state and Inter-Ac championship titles from both the Indoor and Outdoor Track teams.
During his time as form dean, Richards’ easygoing personality and good sense of humor has made him a beloved and approachable mentor, and he has provided unending guidance and support to the Class of 2026. Recently, he has opted to step down as a form dean after the 2026-2027 school year. While Richards will be sorely missed from this position, he will undoubtedly contribute much more to the EA community in the classroom and on the track in the years to come.
