Episcopal Academy field hockey standout Corinne Zanolli ‘17 continues to impress at Stanford and on the international level. At Stanford, Corinne is able to juggle being a student, as she is a political science major, with field hockey, which typically has practice three hours a day with additional lifts twice a week. Corinne shares about her team, “I love having a team full of my best friends who all are working so hard towards a common goal. There is nothing better than walking into a field, everyone giving their all, and achieving a good result. Stanford is an incredible place academically, but on top of that having the opportunity to be a part of the team and represent our school means so much.”
As a member of the U.S. Women’s Indoor Team and the U-21 National Team, Corinne spoke about being apart of the team saying, “It is the most exciting and challenging experience I’ve ever had. It is a huge honor to have been able to wear the USA uniform in the past and something I continue to chase into the future”
Corinne reflected on her appreciation of Episcopal and her time there stating, “Looking back, I’m really grateful for the amazing teachers and coaches I was lucky enough to have while at Episcopal. Teachers like Mr. Trumbull, Dr. Goebeler, Mrs. Konopka, and Mr. Erwin and Coaches like Coach Buggy, Coach McDermott, Coach Goens and Coach Bernabei changed my life in so many ways and mean more to me than I can ever express.”
Corinne also shared her advice that she would give to a current EA student/ She encourages them to,”…just take time to stop and enjoy being at EA with your friends, teammates and teachers.” She also expressed that, “It’s hard to fully realize just how special EA is while you’re still there. It is definitely a challenging place but it is so rewarding in terms of the friendships you form.”
Coach Gina Buggy, coach of Episcopal’s varsity field hockey team, spoke about coaching Corinne and her impact on the field hockey field. Buggy began by saying, “Corinne was a joy to coach because every day she would come to the field enthusiastic and super passionate about the sport.” The three words Buggy would use to describe Corinne are, “tenacious, extremely hard-working, and intense.” Buggy went on to speak about Corinne’s hard work as her greatest quality as she is, “not afraid of hard work and commitment.” Buggy commented on her success at Stanford as well as making the international team by saying, “What she’s doing currently in the NCAA is impressive, however, I am not surprised, because she has worked so hard. She has been determined to excel in certain areas and I am not surprised that all that hard work has come to fruition.”
