The boy’s athlete of the month for March is Jack Bush ‘19, who is entering his fourth and final season on the Boys’ Track team. As a Senior captain of both the winter and spring track teams, Bush has proven himself as an asset and leader to both. There is great depth to Jack’s skill, in fact, he is committed to Lehigh University where he will continue his academic and athletic career playing football.

He has a long history on the track team, earning letters all four years of high school. Bush came to love running at a young age when he began running in CYO, and since then he has carried his love for the sport into high school.

Throughout his career, Bush has broken many records and contributed greatly to impressive team wins. Though he has achieved many amazing accomplishments throughout his four years, during this past winter track season, Bush’s 4×200 relay qualified to compete at states, which is an extremely praiseworthy achievement. Bush reminisces on the meet saying, “the most meaningful meet was definitely up at Lehigh this winter because for the first time the 4×200 relay hit a state qualifying time which I never thought would happen in my high school career. It was incredible to have had an opportunity to compete at the state level this season.”

Since freshman year, Bush has seen himself as a leader and strove to set a good example for the whole team. His teammate Reid Powers ‘20 acknowledged the versatility of Jack’s role on the team stating, “From an outsider perspective, one might notice all the points Jack has earned the team and records he has broken. However, his impact on the team is much more than that, as he is always pushing us to the next level in workouts and encouraging us at meets.” Coach Jim Farrell speaks on this saying, “Jack works extremely hard every day in practice, which challenges and motivates all of the other runners on the team.”

The track team looks very strong headed into this spring season, led by Bush and co-captain Chris Zimmerman ‘19. Bush and Zimmerman make up half of a very strong returning 4×400 group, who won at champs last season. Bush is looking forward to the season and very hopeful for the teams future. He states, “We are really excited for this coming season, we have a lot of strong underclassmen coming in and even a few new senior and junior members that will really help our team.” Under Bush’s leadership, the team hopes to compete at Delcos, Inter Acs, and PAISSAs this season.
