9/30 Pick Six

Old Blogs, Pick Six- Mike Nickolas

If anyone told me LeSean McCoy would have 70 carries for 192 yards and 1 touchdown through 4 games, I would call you crazy. Insane. Yet, here we stand.

The Eagles’ run game this year has been abysmal, pathetic even. Through 4 games, we’ve seen McCoy run side to side only to gain 2 yards consistently. His inability to get down field is majorly due to the lack of a healthy offensive line but more importantly, the play calling.

Chip Kelly has been predictable with his offensive play calls which I consider to be seriously detrimental to Shady’s run game. Holes aren’t opening up and blocks aren’t being made.

I have two takeaways from this game. The first is that Kelly needs variety in his play book. It all looks the same. In the drives the Eagles had, anyone with a set of eyes could predict what the next play was.

My other one is that his tempo is too fast. Kelly’s trademark is a fast tempo offense but it is not only killing his defense on the other side of the ball, it’s hurting Foles as well. With this fast paced offense, it’s all about speed and it doesn’t appear that Foles is able to make changes at the line due to the speed Kelly demands.

If you have Shady on your fantasy team this week, it’s no longer a safe bet. Against a what could be stingy defense, I could see McCoy having yet another non-explosive game. I do, however, see Foles exploiting the Rams’s secondary and putting up reasonable numbers. With Lane Johnson returning to the offensive line this week, he’s McCoy’s only hope to scavenge up a solid day.
