Amanda Paolino ’15, Cole Testauti ’16: As we approach the last few weeks of school, the Episcopal community has been preparing itself for a number of new beginnings in the upcoming school year. One of these preparations has been the annual election for new Vestry members in the III and IV forms.
After all speeches were heard and votes were counted, the results revealed the two new members from each of the participating grades to be Scott McConnell ‘16, Kendra Williams ‘16, Christy Palazzese ‘15, and Chris Redden ‘15.
After sitting down with each of these new representatives, Scholium hopes to shed light upon their personal ideas as well as the hopes for next year’s Vestry.
What goals do you hope to reach as a vestry member? Scott McConnell ‘16- I hope to make chapel more inspiring and entertaining for the students.
What were your thoughts on the induction chapel? Scott McConnell ‘16- I was proud to be with this wonderful Vestry group and thankful for the support of my peers in choosing me.
What are you most excited for now that you have been elected? Kendra Williams ‘16- I am most excited for just planning all of the events and speakers for chapel, since after seeing how much people can learn from speeches I wanted to be a part of making that happen myself.
Why were you initially interested in Vestry? Christy Palazzese ‘15- I wanted to be a leader in the community and I enjoyed participating in Middle School Chapel Council.
What do you hope to accomplish while on Vestry? Christy Palazzese ‘15- I think that I would like to work with the Vestry as a whole to continue making Chapel a place for the community to gather and be able to listen to many different interesting speakers.
How were the new members involved in choosing the chapel theme for next year? Chris Redden ‘15- At our first meeting we voted and I agreed with the theme “Be not afraid,” because with all of the changes happening next year, such as the many new faculty members, I think it is important to embrace the idea of not fearing the unknown and to reach out to new people.
Per these interviews, the newly inducted Vestry members seem to be full of innovative ideas and enthusiasm for the upcoming year. They, along with the rest of the community, will help make the most the new theme, “Be not afraid.”
