Brittany Belo ’14:Prom season is upon us!   Whether “prama” has gotten you down or you simply cannot wait for June 1st to come around, every girl is looking for her perfect dress for the big night.  If you seek advice on how to find the ideal prom dress for you, look no further and read on.

First, find a dress that fits not only your body, but your personality as well.  If you are a bold person, take the extra step with your prom fashion choices. Try a dress with a fun and flirty floral pattern or a dress with peek-a-boo cutouts. Go for daring hairstyles such as exaggerated waves, a sleek up-do, or even hair extensions for extra length or volume.  Do not be afraid to accentuate your ensemble with a bold makeup look by using colorful eye shadows, florescent eyeliners, or bright lips.  Statement pieces such as chunky heels, headpieces, and color blocked accessories can make you stand out from the crowd.  However, be careful because with these, a little goes a long way.

For those who want a more classic style, flowing chiffon dresses will provide the simple yet romantic look you desire.  For hair, messy braids are fun for those with short to medium-length hair and can create gorgeous texture.  Girls with long hair should consider wearing it straight, long and flowing, or with half pulled back. Make-up can be kept to a minimum and natural tones should be used. Light, smoky eyes create the right amount of drama and, paired with a light dusting of blush and bronzer, can give the appearance of a fresh, summery glow.  Metallic jewelry, such as gold or silver, is classic; however, do not be hesitant to move toward a rose gold or even pewter metallic.  By keeping things simple, you are able to accentuate your outfit with one statement piece without overwhelming the entire ensemble.

Finding the perfect color for your prom dress can be tricky, so the following are some tips to choose the most complimenting color for your skin tone:  For girls with fair skin, wear deep, vivid tones to avoid washing yourself out.  Medium-toned girls can go with darker colors or pastels, but should avoid vibrant tones because the bright color may contrast too much with your skin and will create the illusion of being paler than you are.  Olive-skinned girls can try colors like royal blue, black, white, lemon yellow, fuchsia, green, or any pastel; these colors compliment skin tone well and can create a summery glow. Finally, for girls with darker skin, pastels, yellow, black, navy, white, or green will likely suit you best.

Perhaps the most difficult aspect of finding the perfect prom dress, however, is selecting one that compliments your body shape.  The following chart can hopefully guide you through this process.
