There are fewer than one hundred days left before the seniors become the 238th class to graduate from EA. However, these final days will be packed with all of the traditions and fun that the Upper School has to offer. Eshika Tangri ’23 remarks, “I am really excited for all the upcoming senior events until graduation, like Lawn Day and senior assassin.”

These class activities are an opportunity for seniors to connect and make some final happy memories before they leave. Clare Collins ’23 states, “As my final year at EA comes to a close, I’m looking forward to all the various fun events that seniors partake in to celebrate our final days.” Now, what exactly are senior assassin and Lawn Day?

Senior assassin is a game in which tensions run high, strategizing is meticulous, and friendships can be ruined. Kirby Dugan ’23 warns, “Senior assassin–watch out. This year’s challenges are going to be crazy.” All participants in the game are secretly assigned a target whom they must try to eliminate. One is eliminated from the game if their assassin catches them unexpectedly and squirts water on them. The only way to avoid elimination is to have direct contact with the safety item.

The @ea2022seniorassassin Instagram account documented last year’s game which featured Lucky Charms boxes, ski goggles, and even freshmen buddies as safe objects held throughout different stages of the dramatic saga. Collins looks forward to this year’s competition, proclaiming, “I’m in it to win it, but either way it’s a great way to end the year.”

As the year winds to a close and graduation approaches, senior assassin is one of the most exciting EA community activities. In addition to the fun had along the way, there is even a monetary incentive for the best assassin from the class of 2023. Dugan explains, “Everyone chips in money, so you can win that too.”

Next, senior Lawn Day is one of the most unique traditions that happen every year at EA. Each spring for a day, the seniors are allowed to take over the campus green with water slides, volleyball nets, food, and more. They have the opportunity to play games and hang out in this area before first block, in between classes, and during domino. Collins says, “I think senior Lawn Day is also happening, and I can’t wait for it!” However other seniors think additional planning is needed to make the experience truly memorable. Dugan states, “Lawn [Day] needs to be epic because the seniors have been lacking this year.”

Lawn Day and senior assassin are two examples of long-held traditions that the class of 2023 is carrying out to cap off their incredible time at EA. Tangri remembers, “I’ve seen all the past seniors participate in these traditions and have been looking forward to them since I was a freshman.”

For today’s juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, these senior activities are a fun experience to look forward to in the future. For the seniors, they are a chance to unite around Upper School activities and experience the traditions of prior classes. Collins recalls, “As an underclassmen, I always thought it was hilarious to see seniors clutching their Lucky Charms boxes and wearing swim caps. Now that is absolutely going to be me. Time flies!”
