Boys Lacrosse
The Episcopal Academy Boys Lacrosse team has started their Inter-Ac season 3-2. Thus far, they have played each team in the Inter-Ac once and will replay each of them once more. The team is led by captains Nash Womack ‘22 and Tristan Whitaker ‘22, who each play an integral role on the team. Chris Bates, Head Coach of the Boys Lacrosse team, states, “The team will look to peak towards the back half of the season with a league tournament ahead.”
Boys Track
The Boys Track team looks to win their first Inter-Ac Championship in 43 years this season. Zach Richards, Upper School Learning Specialist and Head Coach of Boys Track team, says that he “feels great about the team and believes that the team could win PAISAA, Inter-AC’s and Delcos this year.” Richards appreciates and celebrates all of his seniors, but captains Bryce Cooper ‘22, Neo Vossschulte ’22, and Mekhi Rodgers ‘22 along with CJ Jones ‘22 show leadership.
Girls Track
The Girls Track team also has their most notable events towards the end of the year. Captains Cami Beaulieu ‘22 and Kathryn Lynn ‘22 lead the team and were medalists at the Delco Relays. Sophomores Saige Forbes ‘24 and Avery Elliott ‘24 have both set records this year, becoming team leaders along with the captains. The team looks forward to Inter-Ac Championships where they will be “young and talented” while vying for a top spot, according to Jamison Monahan, Upper School Spanish Teacher and Assistant Coach of the Girls Track team.
Boys Baseball
The Boys’ Baseball team is 4-1 in the Inter-Ac so far, which is one of the best records that they have had in a couple of decades. The team, led by all the seniors including captains Alec Riley ‘22 and Jake Jaszcz ‘22, is focused on the second run through the Inter-Ac schedule. Pitching Coach Taylor Wright says that the season has gone “great so far, but there’s a lot of work to be done, and we are always focused on the next game.”
Boys Tennis
The Boys Tennis team is 3-1 in the league, putting them in second place. The team is guided by senior captains Niki Lavu ‘22 and John Bishop ‘22. The captains have done an excellent job of “supporting the underclassmen on the team” per Michael Whalen, Upper School History Teach and Assistant Coach of the Boys Tennis team. The sophomore class of Gavin Schmidt ‘24, Xinxin Fang ‘24, Hunter Stetson ‘24, Noah Ganzhorn ‘24, and Sam Graham ‘24 have also all been integral to the team’s success this year. Whalen says that they are a “young team in a competitive league.”
Girls Lacrosse:
The Girls Lacrosse team is 12-2, a successful start to the season. Early on, they beat Garnet Valley, Agnes Irwin, and St. Stevens. Josie Tomaino, Head Coach of the Girls Lacrosse team, remarks, “We’ve had an amazing season thus far, with some very strong wins. We lost our first inter-ac game against Spring-side Chestnut Hill by one point, however, it gave us the reset and let us make the changes that will help us achieve an even greater season going forward.”
Girls Softball:
The Girls Softball team is off to a great start with an undefeated season. They won difficult games against local and inter-ac schools, with their most notable win against a very strong Springside Chestnut Hill. Kelly Edwards, Head Coach of the Girls Softball team, comments, “We only have two seniors this year Karen Xiao ‘22 and Nyah Legette ‘22 who are both amazing role models. We have a very young team with many freshmen and even a couple of eighth graders. We have had a very strong season so far, however, we are looking forward to our next game against Spring-Side Chestnut Hill. We played an amazing game against them the first time, winning 2-0, however, I’ve told the girls that in order to win the inter-ac, they are the team to beat.”
Boys and Girls Crew:
The Girls and Boys Crew season has also been very successful with great results all across the board in their opening races, the Flicks: in the 4th flick, the Varsity 4+ and the JV quad had the fastest times, the girls JV 4+ came third in time trials, and novice eights (girls and boys) placed second and third at flick 5. With larger regattas such City Championships and Stotesbury coming up, the teams are preparing and hoping to medal. Molly Konopka, Upper and Middle School Latin Teacher and Head Coach of the Crew Team, remarks, “We graduated a very strong senior class last year. Having a lost year, with the crew program not having many juniors, the sophmores have really stepped up and improved, under the great leadership of the seniors, creating a very cohesive team.”
Girls Golf
The Girls Golf team is off to an excellent start with a record of 6-0 led by captains Cecilia Murphy ‘22 and Gracie McLaughlin ‘22. The team hopes to finish strong in their remaining games against Agnes Irwin and Notre Dame. Kim Farrel, Head Coach of Girls Golf, says the highlight of the year so far was playing against Notre Dame. She explains, “Notre Dame is usually a very strong team, and to beat them on their course has always been a challenge.” Coach Farrell concludes with optimism, saying that “we are hoping that we can try to remain undefeated but we still have some work to do.”
