Rachel Letts is May’s Artist of the Month because of the passion, creativity, and kindness that she brings to each of her many visual and performing arts endeavors.

Letts demonstrates a wide range of interests among the arts courses offered at EA. She has acquired more than three times the amount of arts credits required to graduate, with participation in classes like Foundations of Art, Honors 2D, Honors 2D II, Woodshop, and Choir. While Letts has enjoyed all of her arts classes at EA, she says that “Honors 2D or Woodshop is my favorite of all time.” Beyond the classroom setting, Letts continues to pursue her arts interest in the theater program at EA. She performed in musicals, Les Miserables and Fiddler on the Roof (which was canceled due to Covid), both her freshman and sophomore year, and is a current member of EA’s Domino Board —a group of student leaders in charge of the theater program. This spring, Letts is acting as Sophie Sheridan, the lead in the musical Mamma Mia!

Letts says, “I am really excited to be the lead. It’s definitely a lot of work, but it’s a really fun show. I’m really grateful to be able to perform this show because the last musical [of 2020] was interrupted due to COVID.”

She continues, “In the last musical, I was supposed to play the daughter of my sister, Sarah Letts ‘20—obviously that never happened—so I think this is the perfect way to finish my time as a part of EA’s productions.”

The cast of Mamma Mia recognizes Letts’ talent and hard work. Jack Cellucci ‘24 plays Sky, Sophie Sheridan’s love interest. He comments, “Rachel Letts is so fun to work with. She has a great sense of humor, but she also knows how to stay on task.” He continues, “It’s really easy to work with her. We can communicate, and we’re really cool with each other. It’s great!” Letts remarks on the camaraderie of the cast, stating, “The cast is also super amazing, and makes the long rehearsals worth it!”

Reflecting on overall experience as an artist, Letts concludes, “Art acts as an outlet and allows for me to express myself, while spending time with some of the most genuine and kind people.”
