Caroline Burt is a star athlete on the tennis, squash and lacrosse teams, and a captain on each team. She spoke on her time playing for the Episcopal lacrosse team and memories on the team, stating, “My favorite moment on the team was spring break two years ago, coming back from Maryland, and everyone was singing.” On the field her favorite memory was “playing Agnes Irwin last year and we won by one.”

Burt explained that she started playing when she was young. “My dad had played in college and professionally, so I picked it up, and both my brothers played.” She shared that she is an attacker this year and is one of three captains. She also spoke on the upcoming season. “We’re excited for the season, we have a big senior class.” Caroline says that individually for the season, she feels strong. She also says that “hopefully it goes well, I have a lot of goals for myself.” She spoke on the team’s goals stating, “A more important goal as a team is us all playing together and coming together, using all our individual skills because we have a tough schedule this year. We have shoes to fill with Olivia Dirks ‘19 and Izzy Rhor ‘19 gone. It will be tough, but I have complete faith in our team.” Next year, Caroline will be palying in lacrosse at Yale University.

Head Lacrosse coach Josie Tomaino spoke on Caroline’s presence on the team, “Caroline is an extremely valuable member of our program. She is an inspiring leader and a terrific example of how hard work truly pays off.” She noted that her lacrosse knowledge and skills makes her a stand-out player. “Statistically, Caroline is a returning 1st team All Inter-Ac selection, a US Lacrosse All-Academic selection and EA’s record holder in single season points. She has a very high game IQ and dominates as a crease attacker.” Off the field, Caroline also has a strong presence as a captain in the locker room, as Tomaino pointed to her ability to set the right example especially, speaking to her work ethic, sportsmanship, and communication.

Similar to Caroline’s views on the upcoming season, Tomaino explains that, “Having lost strong positional players to graduation, our biggest challenge will lie in our returning players stepping up to fill specific statistical gaps.”

Tomaino’s coaching record speaks to the strength of the program as she enters her seventh season at Episcopal, with an overall record of 118-26, including 4 Inter-Ac championships, in 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, and the 2016 PASIAA championship. This year the team will face many challenges, both in the, as Tomaino describes, the always competitive Inter-Ac league, and out of league opponents including McDonogh (MD), St Stephens St Agnes (VA), Greenwich Academy (CT), Vero Beach (FL), Hill Academy (ON), and Garnet Valley (PA).

Tomaino concluded saying that for this season she hopes to carry on the team’s successes in the Inter-Ac. “I’m confident in their ability to bring this new group together and carry on tradition by leading us to another Inter-Ac title.”
