Clemson University (currently ranked fourth in soccer in the country according to the NCAA) has already claimed this EA soccer standout. Trevor Manion is a captain of EA’s varsity soccer team and also the starting goalie.
He has been on the varsity team since sophomore year and has consistently been a great contributor. Manion looks to have a great season this year and will help lead the relatively young team to success.
Manion started playing soccer when he was four years old in a local league with his brother. He has developed throughout the years as a player not only on the EA team but also traveling with his club team, Penn Fusion.
As a goalie, Manion has also played a big part in the team’s success defensively. Along with what he describes as an “experienced back line,” he has been a big part of their dominance as a goalie on the defensive half of the field.
Manion’s teammates say that he leads by example. Brendan Depillis ‘20 describes Manion as, “A super supportive captain, that wants what is best for everyone.” Depillis also appreciates Manion’s ability to pump the team up before games with his positive attitude. He adds, “Trevor’s positivity is one of the biggest reasons for the great respect he receives from all of his teammates.”
Additionally, Manion was very humble talking about his own achievements. He describes some of his favorite memories by emphasizing not his own individual performances but the great team wins. Manion talks of his favorite moment against Haverford last year saying, “Last year when we played Haverford at home, we were winning 1-0 and they tied it up 1-1 and we later rallied back to get to 2-1 late in the game. It was the first time we won against Haverford in a while.” He described the win as a team win and could not remember exactly what he did in the game. Even his teammate Depillis commented on this saying, “Trevor is such a selfless leader and that’s why he is the captain he is.”
Manion is also noted for his outstanding achievements and personality by his coaches. Head Coach David Knox says Trevor “sees the whole field in front of him and uses his vantage point to organize himself and his team.” What makes Trevor’s position so unique is that he is the last line of defense but is also able to kickstart the offense. His skills and experience significantly help the team everywhere on the field. Coach Knox says he “helped contribute to the home game unbeaten streak in the regular season of over two years.” Coach Knox describes the team in sections by adding, “Trevor anchors the strong back that carries the creative and inventive in the middle and hard working front.”Manion and the entire team have very high hopes for the season and look to win the Inter-Ac and beat Haverford at home this year. The team will continue to rely on the defense as the “rock” of the team while also pushing to score more goals on the offense. Manion describes, “Because the expectations for this team are high, I really hope to help the younger players gain confidence and turn this final season into the most memorable one yet.”
