Tennis
The boys’ tennis team has had great success for the past few years, however they have come in second for the last five years to the Haverford School. Last year, the boys won every match in the Inter-Ac with a near undefeated record until they played Haverford where they lost 5 matches to 2. Co-captain Alec Austin believes they can win the title this year saying, “I believe that this could be the year that we finally beat Haverford. We are young but as long as we keep developing and work hard our ceiling is limitless.” After the first day of practice, Coach Whit Powell said, “I can’t remember a first day fitness that had this much energy, positivity and spirit! If this is a precursor of what’s to come, we’re going to have a successful season.” The EA tennis team is incredibly motivated to win the interac under the leadership of captains Aantorik Ganguly and Alec Austin.
Lacrosse
With high aspirations, the boys’ lacrosse team looks to cap its season off with an Inter-Ac League championship win. After coming short last year, the team is hungrier than ever, looking to knock off the top team in the country. Co-captain Rowan Brumbaugh ‘19 says, “Last year we had a great season, but we didn’t accomplish our Inter-Ac championship goal because the season ended prematurely for us as we came up short in the semi final”. In preparation for this season, the team has been in the weight room all winter as well as on the field doing shooting and footwork drills, explains Brumbaugh. Each and everyday, the practices for the team has energy and a positive mentality that Coach Bates has instilled in each of the players minds says Gabe Furey, Senior Captain. As for team chemistry, Colin Loughead ‘19, Senior Captain explains, “The offense and defense are really tight and work as one big unit. We are very competitive in practice which will help us come game time.”
Track
Chris Zimmerman ‘19, senior captain of the boys’ track team, says “Last year we were a strong team with a lot of potential. We won our heat of Penn relays and broke the 4×400 record. Elias also broke basically every single distance record at EA”. The EA track team looks to bring their momentum into this year’s races and break more records. “The practices are already off to a strong start and the team is working hard and pushing each other during every practice” says Zimmerman. As a Senior Captain, Zimmerman looks to lead his squad to many titles this season, as they have lots of potential. Zimmerman says “As a captain i feel that we are a very good, hardworking team and can accomplish a lot this season”. Optimistic about this group of runners, the EA track team looks to capitalize on all the talent that they have on this team and win numerous titles during this 2019 season.
Crew
With the season upcoming the boys’ crew team is optimistic and ready to take on the competition that awaits them. Last year was considered to be a “rebuilding year” because of the lack of senior participation in the sport. The start of the season however has not started out as they have desired, due to the weather. This cold weather has not stopped them however as they are “focused on being as good as we can be day to day” says senior captain Harry Pusey ‘19. Pusey believes the team is prepared and ready to work: “the competition is fierce which drives everyone to raise their performances to another level.” The coaches are excited to see the team improvement throughout the season and hopefully have some success against their rivals. Harry is excited to see what will happen with his last year on the Schuylkill. Off to a great start the EA boys crew team looks to carry the momentum into the season and have incredible success like they have in the past few years, while bringing a trophy back to EA. |
Baseball
For the 2019 season, EA boys’ varsity baseball team looks to capitalize on the talent that they have on their squad this year. After coming short of a PAISAA title last year, they are hungry for a championship title. Captain Jack O’Reilly ‘19, remarks on last years’ season, saying “I thought we had a pretty successful season last year with a 2nd place finish in PAISAA, but obviously we wanted to win our last game so there’s been a bitter taste in our mouths since then.” O’Reilly says that “the season has started off great and that the practices have been really productive with a new coaching staff”. O’Reilly states, “As a captain I’m feeling optimistic about our teams’ chances to compete at a really high level this year and put ourselves in the best position to compete for an inter AC and state championship”. With everything off to a great start this season, the EA boys’ baseball team looks to capitalize this season and bring home the league championship title.
