1. Previous Athletic Director, Dr. Borkowski, used to tell a different story about the origin of the Sweater usually when two brothers who went to each school ripped their sweaters in half, and their mother sewed them back together.
2. Before AIS Day, back on the Merion campus, Haverford Day was always on Friday.
3. Back in the ‘80’s, if EA won all 3 events (there was no golf and no water polo), then Headmaster Jay Crawford would cancel school the following Monday.
4. Jay Crawford used to dress up as various characters for the Pep Rally. One year, he was Batman, and swung into the Pep Rally on a zipline. The next year, he dressed as “Bartman” (Bart Simpson meets Batman). The year after that he came as the Terminator, and rode in on a motorcycle.
5. Marc Mandeville started the “Haverford Day” video with Andy Hayes about 16 years ago, with a combination of VHS tapes and still photos. Some of his best themed Haverford/AIS day videos included: a Forrest Gump parody; a “Rocky” parody with Rev. Squire running all the way from EA to the Art Museum, and up the steps; and “Teachers sing their favorite hits,” with Mr. John Powell acting as Casey Kasem, and Ryan Dankanich playing Kenny G.
6. Robert Trumbull once had a starring solo in the Dance contest.
7. The girls have won the banner every year except one.
8. Regina Buggy’s favorite part of EA/HAV/AIS weekend is the chapel speeches.
9.For many years the athletic department was trying to incorporate the girls piece into the event, but surprisingly the girls were opposed to this because they thought it would take away from the energy of the whole day, but once they gave it a try the girls loved it.
10.When the girls were first included they played their games Friday under the lights at Saint Joe’s University and another year under the lights at Villanova University, both years they were packed.
