Sarah Barr ’16: Months of hard work, dedication, and both physical and mental preparation led up to the annual Stotesbury Cup regatta this past weekend, where Episcopal Academy rowers pulled for success.

 

The team has already enjoyed tremendous success in the various flicks which have occurred throughout their season, and in the Philadelphia City Champs, where four boats – the Girls V4+, Boys V4+, Girls Novice 8+, and Boys Novice 4+ came in first, second, and third, respectively.

After the time trials on Friday, May 15th, six Episcopal boats qualified for the May 16th semifinals. The Girls JV8+, who came in 14th in their time trial with a time of 6:08:640, progressed along with the other top 18 boats to the semis, a particularly impressive feat since they had moved up from the novice category to race JV. The girls JV8+ was coxed by Lindsay Barber ’18, with the rowers – from stern to bow – as Josephine Konopka ’18, Shannon Conlin ’17, Alexandra Peyton ’18, Skyler Schork ’18, Heidi Zirnkilton ’17, Cassandra Kaufhold ’16, Emma Sargent ’18, and Grace Kaufhold ’18. Their semifinal time was an impressive 5:42.420, less than 14 seconds from qualifying for the final. The boys Lightweight 4, coxed by Seher RoyChowdhury ’15 and rowed by, from stern to bow, Colson Andrews ’17, QaysLadha ’16, Griffin Kearney ’16, and William Hartman ’16, also progressed to the semifinals, finishing 4th in their heat with a time of 5:33.680, approximately seven seconds off from qualifying for their final. The Boys JV8+ qualified for their semifinal after placing 14th in their time trial, with a time of 5:19.690. The boat was coxed by Michael Larkin, ’17, and rowed, from stern to bow, by Charles Jordan ’16, Nicolas Christianson ’17, Mikhail Melnik, ’16, Peter LeRoux ’17, Philipp Humann ’16, Thomas Woodville ’16, Timothy Baker ’17, and Jonathan Grizos ’16. The boys JV8+ finished 6th in their semifinal, with a time of 5:12.500.Michael Hughes, Episcopal’s boy’s senior single, finished sixth in his semifinal with a time of 6:33.730.

 

The Girls Varsity 4+ and Boys Varsity 4+, both the Philadelphia City Champions, also advanced to the semifinals, and to the finals of the Stotesbury Cup regatta. The girls V4+, coxed by Leah Yao ’15, and rowed, from stern to bow, by Haley Potter ’16, Laura Zecca ’16, Morgan Lindblad ’16, and Anna Eringis ’15, finished 3rd in their time trial, with a time of 5:57.270. In their semifinal, the girls boat finished second with a time of 5:54.950, 3 tenths of a second from first. The girls won third place and bronze medals in the final, with a time of 6:08.900. The boys V4+, coxed by Carolyn Bell ’16, and rowed stern to bow by William Purtill ’17, Nicholas Horbowy ’17, Guillaume Furey ’15, and Francis Kinniry ’15, finished first in their time trial with a time of 5:14.250, 1st in their semifinal with a time of 5:10.350, and won the gold medals in their final, with a time of 5:09.140.
