AJ Lotsis ’16, Matt Woods ’16: The Episcopal Academy Girls Cross-Country team has their sights set on helping EA regain the banner this year, and nothing is standing in their way. The girls recently captured the Inter – Ac cross-country title and want to keep the momentum rolling into EA/AIS Day. When asked, captain Leigh Adelizzi ’15 said, “This year we really feel we have a strong team. We have tons of great runners who all want each other to succeed. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going into EA/ AIS Day in order to win back the banner for the EA community.”

The cross-country team has had a near perfect season, only suffering one loss to Spring Side Chestnut Hill. Earlier in the season, the cross-country team had already defeated Agnes Irwin at home. Senior runner Alexis Malmberg ’15, said, “We have been racing very well all season. The whole team has confidence going into EA/AIS Day that we will be able to win, as long as we run the way we are all capable. Agnes Irwin is one of the best teams in the league for cross-country, so it will be a good test.” Being that EA/AIS Day is held at Agnes Irwin, the course will be much easier than if it were to be at EA. EA’s course is known throughout the Inter-Ac as one of the hardest due to the hills. However, Agnes Irwin’s three lap, primarily flat course will be an easy run for the girl’s team. When asked about her favorite part of EA/AIS Day, senior Dana Giles ‘15 said, “My favorite part of the weekend is going out there and having fun. Being my senior year, it will be more competitive than ever. Also, the support we receive is incredible and the fans are just as important. I love competing for my school.”

For any sport preparation is crucial to a team’s success. When asked specifically about how they have prepared for the weekend, Malmberg responded, “Well, we practice hard everyday. Running as a team really helps us get through practice. My teammates and I are my sisters. We push each other to the limit everyday with the weekend in our minds.” The cross-country team has been preparing for EA/AIS day and this surely will be a meet to remember.
