Maximo Moyer ’17, Avi Shah ’17: Step after step cross-country runners train through repetition and dedication. The sport involves no plays and is fairly straightforward but requires high levels of determination. Running is a sport in which there are “no excuses”. This year’s Boy’s Cross-Country team has clearly understood and internalized this message. Team captain Aaron Kim ‘15 said, “Our team this year is very young but looks promising.” He attributes some of this promise to their work in the off season adding that, “We had a solid core of our team running together almost every day this summer.” Kim, along with the rest of the team, realizes that in order to improve the only thing they can do is grind out long runs everyday of the week.
So far the team is 2-3, but their times are improving at a rapid pace, which gives them reason to be optimistic about theirperformance on EA/Haverford Day. Michael Larkin ‘17 stated, “I think with these runners, although we may not have started on the right foot, we can beat the fords. Our times are not all outrageously fast but they are all consistently good and close to each other.” This illustrates how tight nit this group of runners is. Despite cross-country being an individual sport, they all feed off of each other’s passion. On EA/Haverford weekend The Episcopal Academy runners will have the chance to showcase what they have been running towards all year. As Kim said, “It’s not where you start in the race it’s where you finish.” Kim is confident the Boy’s Cross-Country team will use this mindset to propel them toward a win when it matters most.
