Dear Episcopal Students,
Welcome back! I hope that all of you have had a relaxing summer and are ready to work hard and have a great school year.
This year as a Council we have many exciting events planned. Our events kicked off this Friday when we had the Rita’s water ice party at lunch. Additionally, in September, student council will be running the club fair. This is a great opportunity to see what amazing clubs and activities you can get involved in here at Episcopal. This year at the club fair I challenge each one of you to take advantage of all the opportunities that Episcopal has to offer. Whether you are a new freshman or a “lifer” senior, it’s never too late to step outside of your comfort zone and join a new activity
When the year gets going, I encourage all of you to not forget to enjoy yourselves. Find something that you are passionate about: a class, a club, a sport, or another activity. Remember that your time at EA is limited, and now is the time to take advantages of the opportunities presented to you. Rely on each other when you get stressed, or are having a bad day. The EA community is truly something special, closer and stronger than it has ever been before. Immerse yourself in it and prepare to leave with no regrets.
The most anticipated week of the year, and possibly the largest responsibility of student council, is planning spirit week. Although it seems far away now, it will be here before you know it. Spirit week is filled with crazy dress down days and inter-grade competitions to build spirit not only as individual grades but also as a whole school. Your student council representatives are already busy planning the events to make this week a lot of fun. Although we are not hosting the games this year, I am excited to show Haverford and Agnes Irwin the spirit that Episcopal will bring to the games.
In addition to the activities and contests that Student Council runs, we are changing the structure in which our meetings are held so that we can be more efficient and guarantee participation from all elected representatives. Along with the big events that the council as a whole plans, each grade’s representatives are responsible for meeting with their class dean and planning class events and trips. Although these grade events may seem small, a lot of time and effort is put into them to make sure that they are fun for the whole class.
I would like to remind the student body that you do not need to be elected to student council to contribute. Everyone in the community deserves to have their voice hear.
Our meetings during activities on day 4 and 10 are open to all students and faculty who wish to join. If you have an idea for an activity, a concern, or a suggestion we would love to have you at our meetings. Episcopal is a truly special community and I hope that everyone takes advantage of all that it has to offer.
Let’s make this year our best yet!
