Rich Palazzese ’14: Episcopal Academy Athletic Director Gina Buggy has been inducted into the Montgomery County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. Buggy, who interviewed with Main Line Times about her recognition, noted, “I am truly honored to have been selected.”
The Churchwomen field hockey coach was selected for her achievements in high school, college, and professional athletics. Buggy attended Plymouth Whitemarsh for high school and Ursinus College thereafter. At Ursinus, Buggy was a four-year starter in both field hockey and lacrosse; she is also currently a member of the Ursinus College athletic Hall of Fame.
Buggy went on to represent the United States as a member of the women’s lacrosse and field hockey teams. The former Ursinus College Grizzly Bear participated in the 1982 World Cup and helped the United States win a bronze medal in the 1984 Olympics.
As a coach for EA, Buggy has left quite a legacy. Beginning in 1986, Buggy sports a 359-83 record as of September 15 of this year. Kelly McGowan ’14 attests to Buggy’s coaching excellence, saying, “Coach Buggy is one of the most enthusiastic and positive people I know which makes her a great coach, leader and role-model.”
The current field hockey team loves Buggy because she leads by example. Lexie Curry ’14 stated, “It has been an honor playing for Coach Buggy the last four years. She knows when to push us hard and when we need reassurance. She motivates us while keeping us humble and epitomizes our team motto, ‘Heart.’”
